Seeking Breathless Wonder in the World

~Lotions And Potions~

October 31st, 2013

“The most beautiful makeup for a woman is passion…

but cosmetics are easier to buy”

            Yves Saint Laurent

The French woman has that certain mystique about her, that je ne sais quoi…what’s their secret?

Perhaps…City Pharma?

This is the place to go for all your lotions & potions in Paris. It certainly doesn’t look like much from the outside but inside it’s two floors of a beauty junkies paradise.  It’s best to get there early in the day as it will get very crowded. It is also a good idea to do your research to make sure you’re getting what you want at a good price.  From experience I can tell you it can get really overwhelming with the crowds and tons of products all in a different language but if you bring a list & give it to one of the many saleswomen on the floor & smile they are really helpful-(if you don’t bring a list bring your best patient shopper attitude).

The first floor is beauty & hair products, the second floor you will find RX, homeopathic & herbal potions.

City Pharma carries French & European labels at a discount of 30%-40%. I’m no beauty expert for sure, but judging from the crowds of women carrying baskets filled with products there must be some truth to this myth?

Okay, I’ll say it again-I am no beauty expert-but I do love my lotions & potions & am a sucker for the latest, greatest hair detangler/taming trick, so a stop at City Pharma is on my list of must go places when in Paris.

Some popular products:

Eau Thermale Avène -an anti-aging & sunscreen line with the healing & soothing benefits of thermal spring waters for sensitive skin. I especially like their Eye cream & Restorative hand crème.

La Roche-Posay-Sunscreen with IP (index of protection) -On my list to buy is Anthelios 50 daily-Anti aging primer with sunscreen & Anthelios XL SPF 60 sunscreen.

Nuxe-Natural ingredient products-I have read mixed reviews but I might need to pick up their Reve de Miel (honey) Lip Balm

Darphin-their Milk Cleanser & Toner come highly recommended

Biotherm-Skin care line from L’Oréal, with thermal water & plankton ingredients, not to be confused with

 Bioderma-skin care line

Avibon-Vitamin A-the French retinol- thick, goopy crème-be warned, a little goes a long way-use only at night

Vichey-Skin care, anti-aging & sunscreen

Roc-Skin care that contains retinol

Yves Rocher-Hair products

Phyto-Hair products

Rene Furterer-Hair products- the Triphasic regenerating treatment for thinning hair gets good reviews (definitely not an issue for me!)

Klorane- Hair products including a daily use chamomile shampoo & detangling conditioner. Also on my list to try is their Soothing & relaxing patches for tired eyes with cornflower.

Voltaren Gel-Ibropropin crème for aches & pains-I always bring home a few tubes of this.

Marvis Toothpaste-minty toothpaste in pretty packaging from Italy
